Art therapy for children: it's not an art class
When parents hear "art therapy," they sometimes picture an art class where children are taught how to draw or paint. But art therapy is fundamentally different. It's not about the final product; it's about the process.
For many children, especially those who are neurodivergent or have experienced trauma, words are not enough. They may not have the vocabulary to explain why they feel anxious or angry. Art provides a different language.
Through clay, paint, or drawing, a child can externalize what they are feeling inside. It gives them a safe distance from their emotions, allowing them to process complex feelings without having to speak them aloud.
